Adding Menu Items and Modifiers
To add a new menu item, you’ll need to be in the back office program under Start > All Programs > Digital Dining > Office.
Login with your username (usually your last name) and password (the 4 digit pin you use to login to POS).
Locate “Menu” on the top left corner, the click on “Menu Items”
Click on “Find” in the top left and start typing in the name of a similar item you are trying to add. For example, if you’re adding a new beverage, type in the name of an existing beverage. If adding a new entree, type in the name of an existing entree. Or if adding a new modifier, type in an existing modifier.
Press “Add” in the top middle once you’ve found a similar item.
Fill out the Check Description field with the name of the new item. Now if
you click on the Prep Description, it’ll automatically fill out with what was
typed in the Check Description.
Now go to the Price Level 1 field, and enter the price of the item for the 5
Price Levels. (You may have a Happy Hour / Timed Price settings enabled, so be aware of what price levels may be in effect).
Before you save, double check the “2-Windows” tab, and verify that the menu item is under the correct POS Window.
If the item is under the correct POS Window, press “Save” on the bottom left, and if you have no more items to add, press “Exit” and the menu items will be pushed to the POS at this point.
If the item is not under the correct POS Window, highlight the POS Window it appears in and press “Remove” under the column “POS Windows”.
Press “Insert” under the column “POS Windows” and type in the name of the window you’d like the menu item to appear in. It can appear in more than one window at a time.
Press “Save” in the bottom left corner and you can add the next item, and “Exit” once you have finished.
Modifiers and POS Windows
Modifiers can be found under two places, the general Food or Beverage modifier windows, or as a forced modifier on specific menu item like Meat Temps or Side Choices. Determine what type of modifier you are trying to add; if you’re adding a general modifier, continue on with this section, if it’s a forced modifier, skip to the next section “Forced Modifiers”.
General Modifiers
• Just like a menu item, modifiers can be found under “Menu” > “Menu
Items” alongside all of your normal Menu Items.
• Find an existing modifier and you’ll notice it has a Sales Mode of
“Modifier” and a Prep Type of “Inherit Prep Type”
There are two types of general modifiers, Bev Mods and Food Mods, these will generally start at PLU 200000 for Food Mods, and PLU 4000000 for Bev Mods. You can double check where the modifiers appear by looking under the “2-Windows” tab.
Once you’ve located either a Food or Beverage modifier, press “Add”, and create the new modifier like you would a menu item, by filling out the Check Description. If the modifier has a price, add the price as well, or leave it as a zero price item.
If you’re trying to add a new “No / With / Sub / Light / Extra” modifier, find an existing modifier, like “Butter” or “Garlic”, and press “Add” and create the new modifier, once you “Save” and “Exit” the new modifier will appear in the modifier window.
Adding Forced Modifiers
Forced modifiers are POS Windows that are attached to menu items under the “2-Windows” tab.
You can “Insert” a window on a menu item and it will force the user to select one option in that Window. If you have multiple windows in the forced modifier column, it’ll take them to that many different windows.
You can remove a forced modifier window by highlighting the window you’d like to remove, and press the “Remove” button.
To add a new window for forced modifiers go to “Menu” > “Menu Setup” > “Menu POS Windows”.
You should see something that says “! ADD FROM HERE”, which should be a blank window. Press the “Add” button.
Name this new window something descriptive for what its purpose will be, like “Sandwich Sides” or “Sauce Choice”
Now you can find existing modifiers to put in this window by pressing the second “Find” button. Find as many modifiers as you need and they’ll stay in the “Items Without a Position” column.
Press the “ >> ” button to add the items into the new window.
Optional: If the POS Window needs the ability to not have to select a
modifier, add an “Exit” button under the “Find” menu list as well to allow
the user to not have to add a modifier.
Press “Save” and then “Exit”.
If you need to add more menu items to the new window that was created,
go to “Menu” > “Menu Items” and find an item that has been added to the window already, and then press “Add”, and it’ll automatically be added to the window.
If there are no existing menu items to put in the new window, find an existing modifier, and “Add” from that item, and put it under “2-Windows” in the POS Window that you created by removing any existing windows, and “Insert” the new window.
Once the window is built, you need to add it under “2-Windows” under the forced modifier column for it to be active.
POS Windows
Menu POS Windows can be found under “Menu” > “Menu Setup” > “Menu POS Windows”. This will show you all the menu items that are under a specific POS Window or screen.
You can “Find” a window by typing in its name. And you can “Find” menu items to add into the window with the “Find” button that’s above the
“BLANK” item. The “Remove” button will remove a highlighted item under
the “Items Without a Position”
The “Insert” button will insert a highlighted item into the POS window
where a space is highlighted on the Window on the right under “Window
Layout”. It’ll push the next menu item one space down for each Column.
The “Replace” button will replace the space with the menu item on the left column into a highlighted space on the right, whether it be a Menu Item,
or a blank space.
The “ >> “ button will add all menu items into the window on the right.
The “ << “ button removes all items from the window into the left.
The “ < “ button removes the one item highlighted on the right side into
the left column.
You can drag a menu item under the “Window Layout” portion to
anywhere on the window to arrange a window in any way you’d like.
You can also use the “Sort By” and choose “Description” and it’ll sort the
entire window by alphabetical order.
You can use POS Windows Maintenance to remove specific menu items
as well by moving the items from the right side into the left column by double clicking, or using the “ < “ button, and then highlighting and pressing the “Remove” button. You can highlight multiple items in the left column by Shift + Clicking the first and last item in the left column and then pressing the “Remove” button. This will remove items from a window, but they will still exist in the system to be used in the future.
