The Modifiers screen includes controls that enable you to define and configure menu item modifiers. Modifiers are variations or additions to a main menu item, such as different flavors (lime, strawberry, or peach), a choice of a margarita rim (sugar, salt), or wing sauces (spicy, buffalo).
To access the Modifiers screen, log into the Admin Console, select an appropriate account. In the Admin Console’s Main Menu, click Menu, then click Modifiers. In the Modifiers screen, click New to create a new modifier.
Name: Type a descriptive name for the modifier.
Show Modifier Name: This list enables you to set the POS to display or print the modifier’s name and the names of its ingredients in the POS ticket screen, the kitchen display system (KDS), and printed kitchen slips.
If you select Disabled, the POS will not display this modifier’s name. If you select Ticket Screen, the POS will display the modifier’s name (and its ingredients) in the ticket screen, along with the other items on the ticket. If you select Kitchen, the POS will display the modifier’s name (and its ingredients) in the KDS display and printed kitchen slips. If you select Both, the POS will display the modifier’s name (and its ingredients) in the POS ticket screen, the KDS display, and printed kitchen slips.
Minimum Choices: In this box, enter the minimum number of choices required when you select this modifier in the POS.
Maximum Choices: In this box, enter the maximum number of choices allowed when you select this modifier in the POS.
Number of Included Ingredients: Enter the number of ingredients that servers can add to the modifier with no additional cost. The POS does not include ingredients set as defaults in this count.
Allow Half & Half: If you select this check box, the POS will allow servers to add ingredients in this modifier as half ingredients and apply “half & half” pricing to them.
Multiplier: Enter the ingredient’s price if it is ordered as a half portion. For example, if you want to set half an ingredient as half price, enter “0.5” in this box. This box is only available if you first select the Allow Half & Half check box.
Allow Duplicate Ingredients: If you select this check box, the POS will allow you to order the ingredients in this modifier more than once. To use this feature, you must first set the Maximum Choices box to a number greater than one. Also, you cannot use this feature with “half & half” enabled modifiers.
Allow Substitutes: If you select this check box, the POS will allow servers to substitute any default ingredient selected on the item for another ingredient in this group at no cost.
Ignore Minimum Choices in POS: If you select this check box, the POS will not enforce the Minimum Choices setting (above). This setting only applies to purchases made within the store; it does not apply to E-Commerce (Kiosk or Skip the Line) transactions.
Button Cover: Click to choose one of the pre-set colors or choose a color then click the box in the top-right corner and use the white circle and slider tool to customize the color.
Ingredients: You can use the Ingredients list to associate a modifier with one or more ingredients. To associate an ingredient to the modifier, click the Create or Select an Ingredient list and select an appropriate ingredient. This list includes all of the ingredients you have created in the Ingredients screen.
When you select an ingredient, the program will add it to the Ingredients list and display it with a Default Price box, a Size Price box, and a Kitchen Group list.
Also, when you add the first ingredient to the Ingredients list, the program displays the Select a Size list. This list enables you to set different prices for ingredients when they are ordered in different sizes. This list includes all of the sizes you have created in the Sizes screen.
After adding an ingredient to the list, if you enter a price in its Default Price box, the POS will charge that price for the ingredient when you add its modifier to a menu item.
If you enter a price in its Size Price box, the POS will charge that price for the ingredient when its menu item is ordered in the size displayed in the Select a Size list. For instance, if you select a size in the Select a Size list (such as “10 oz”) and then enter a price in an ingredient’s Size Price box (such as “1.00”), the POS will charge $1.00 for the ingredient when you order an item that includes the ingredient in a size of 10 oz.
If you select a kitchen group in an ingredient’s Kitchen Group list, the POS will allow you to select a different kitchen group if you ever need to print this ingredient on a different printer or display it on a different KDS display.
If you rearrange the order of the ingredients in a modifier’s Ingredients list, it will change the order in which the ingredients are listed within the modifier by the POS when you add the modifier to a menu item. You can change the order of the ingredients in the list by clicking one () and dragging it to a different location within the list.
To delete an ingredient from this list, click its Delete button.
Assigned Items: In this list, you can select one or more menu items to associate with this modifier. Later, when you order one of the menu items in this list, the POS will include this modifier in the menu item’s collection of available modifiers. To delete a menu item from this list, click its Delete button.
Available Online: Select this check box to allow customers to see and apply the modifier to items when ordering in the Online Ordering website.
