Genius for Retail is the Global Payments retail point of sale and inventory platform. It launched under the Genius name in 2025 and is the product previously sold as Heartland Retail.

Read this before you go looking

The rebrand is still working its way through. Much of the current documentation, and some screens in the product, still say Heartland Retail. Treat the two names as the same product unless a document explicitly distinguishes them.

What it does

• Point of sale. Tickets, sales orders, layaways, returns, exchanges, gift cards, cash drawer management.
• Inventory. Items, grids for size and colour, multi location stock, transfers, counts, adjustments, bin locations, purchase orders and receiving.
• Customers. Customer records, purchase history, customer dashboard, loyalty and marketing integrations.
• Promotions. Promotions, coupons, ticket level and order level discounts, bundles.
• Reporting. Sales, inventory, accounting and bookkeeping reports, sales plans, velocity, on hand.
• Integrations. Shopify, BigCommerce, Magento, QuickBooks Online, NuORDER, JOOR, Mailchimp and others.

Where it runs

• Back office in a browser.
• POS on iPad, on Windows and Mac through Retail Connect, and on Android with a customer facing display.
• Card readers including the Genius reader, PAX A35, PAX S300, PAX S920, PAX PX7 and Clover Mini.

How it differs from Genius for Restaurant

Different product, different codebase, different back office. Restaurant thinks in rooms, tables, tickets and courses. Retail thinks in items, inventory, tickets and sales orders. Do not assume a setting in one exists in the other.
