Refunding Gift Cards to Cash

Setup (One-Time)

  1. Create a menu item called “Gift Card Cash Refund.”

  2. Configure it as:

    • Non-revenue

    • Tax exempt

    • Misc item

Steps to Process a Refund


  1. Check the Gift Card Balance

    • Inquire the gift card to confirm the exact remaining balance.

  2. Add the Refund Item

    • Add the “Gift Card Cash Refund” item to the check.

    • Set the price to match the exact balance on the gift card.

  3. Complete the Purchase

    • Pay for the item using the gift card.

  4. Refund to Cash

    • Reopen the check.

    • Process a refund to cash for the same amount.
