The single most useful piece of vocabulary on the enterprise platform, and the one that makes its documentation searchable.
Modifiers are called Ingredients
What every other POS calls a modifier, Genius Enterprise calls an Ingredient. This runs through the whole product:
- Product records have Summary Ingredients.
- Kitchen screens have an Ingredients Pane.
- There are Ingredient Filters and Ingredient Tags.
Searching the Global Payments documentation for modifier display returns nothing useful. Searching for ingredient finds it immediately.
The general lesson
When a documentation search comes up empty on this platform, the feature almost certainly has a different internal name. Read the labels in the portal UI and search those instead of the words you would expect.
Kitchen display configuration
What a kitchen screen shows is controlled by several settings that interact:
- Cell Body settings — what appears in each order cell.
- Show Modifiers versus Show Build Modifiers — two different switches with two different effects. Confirm which one a site has on before concluding anything about what the kitchen sees.
- Kitchen Emphasis — what gets visual priority on the screen.
- Ingredient Filters — what is suppressed from the display.
There is no ingredient sort control. If a site wants ingredients in a particular order on the kitchen screen, that is not a setting. Knowing this saves hours of looking for it.
How to diagnose a kitchen display complaint
- Get the artifact: the actual photograph of the screen, or the receipt. Read it literally and write down the exact strings.
- Open the product record in Data Management and read how the item is genuinely built: the product, its modifier collection, its default build, the quantities.
- Compare what is configured against what displayed. The gap is the finding.
- Check the screen and channel configuration that renders it.
- Read the vendor documentation for those exact field names before concluding anything.
- Say plainly which parts you verified and which are hypothesis. A confident wrong cause costs more than an honest test.
