Context Items are variable contextual changes that can be applied to a menu Item. For instance, a fast food location might use a context item called “light” that servers can apply to sandwich and burger items to request a thinner portion of the topic. Common examples include “Extra”, “On Side”, “On Top”, or “Substitute”.
To access the Context Items screen, log into the Admin Console, select an appropriate account. In the Admin Console’s Main Menu, click Menu, then click Context Items. In the Context Items screen, click New to create a context item.
Name: Type a descriptive name for the new context item.
Short Name: If a context item has an unusually long name (such as “Double”), you can enter a shorter name (like “2X”) in the Short Name box.
Also, if you have servers that speak different languages, you could enter the context item’s name in an alternate language in the Short Name box and then set the item to display both versions in the POS.
Ingredients: In this list, you can associate one or more ingredients with this context item. Click the Select an Ingredient list and select an ingredient that is available to the context items. This list includes all ingredients you have created in the Ingredients screen. You can add as many ingredients as needed.
Every ingredient you add includes a Multiplier box. If necessary, you can enter a modifier in the new ingredient’s Multiplier box, and the POS will apply it to the ingredient’s default price when this context item is ordered.
For example, if you enter “2.00,” the POS will double the price of the ingredient. If you enter “0.00” or “1.00”, the POS will use the ingredient’s default price without any modification.
To delete an ingredient from this list, click its Delete button.
