NextGen device setup best practices

NextGen device setup best practices

These are the details that most often delay a NextGen install. Read them before you unbox.

Leave the cable pull tabs alone

Some of the USB-C cables have small blue or black plastic pull tabs on the ends. They give you leverage to remove the cable from inside the ELO housing later. Do not cut them off.

The Network prompt times out

After you connect and power on the stand, it shows the Network screen straight away and waits. If you do not start selecting a network before it times out, the device drops to a blue screen reading No content is configured for this device.

That is not a fault. Restart the device manually and be ready at the Network screen this time.

The 5 to 15 minute restart

After connecting everything, run the MB5500 FW and Enable MultiClient Input utilities. They update firmware and pull down the ELOView update utility. The device then shows a blue screen saying setup is complete, with a spinning processing icon.

This normally takes 5 to 15 minutes. If the device has not restarted itself after 15 minutes, restart it manually. Do not sit and wait past that.

Then set the screen density

Before signing in to the Genius app. See Set the XC23 screen density to 160 DPI.

Wireless security

NextGen and Mobile 2.0 devices do not support WPA3. Use WPA2.

Install order that works

  1. Enable the location in the Admin Console.
  2. Unbox and cable the stand, CFD, printer and reader.
  3. Power on and join Wi-Fi at the Network prompt.
  4. Run the firmware utilities and wait out the restart.
  5. Set screen density to 160 MDPI and reboot.
  6. Open the Genius app and enter the Device Login Code.
  7. Build the printer template and send test prints.
  8. Pair the payment terminal and confirm CONNECTED.
  9. Ring a live test ticket end to end, including a card payment and a refund.
