Organise item screens and layouts

Item screens, also called Screen Layout Buttons, organise items so staff can find them while taking an order as quickly and intuitively as possible.

Where

Merchant Portal, under the item management area, in the screen layout tools.

How to lay one out

  1. Start from the site top twenty sellers. Those go on the first screen, no scrolling.
  2. Group the rest the way staff think about them, which is not always the way the category tree is built.
  3. Use consistent positions across screens so muscle memory works.
  4. Colour code by category rather than decorating individual buttons.
  5. Leave room. A crowded screen produces mis rings.

Test before you leave

Have a member of staff who has never seen the layout ring five typical baskets. If they hesitate, move the buttons.

Revisit it

Layouts drift out of date as the range changes. Review the first screen every season against the actual top sellers report.
