Pricing rules enable you to set custom pricing for a specific time period, such as “Happy Hour” or a holiday.
To access the Pricing Rules screen, log into the Admin Console, select an appropriate account. In the Admin Console’s Main Menu, click Menu, then click Pricing. In the Pricing Rules screen, click New to create a new pricing rule.
Name: Type a descriptive name for the new pricing rule.
Short Identifier: Type a short name for the pricing rule. For example, if you have a pricing rule called “Happy Hour”, you might give it a Short Identifier of “HH”.
Apply Post-tax: If you select this check box, the POS will only apply this pricing rule after taxes are calculated. The pricing rule will neither increase nor decrease the ticket’s tax amount.
Room Specific: If you select this check box, the POS will only apply this pricing rule to tickets created within the specific room it is associated with. You can associate a room with a pricing rule by accessing the room’s record in the Rooms screen and then selecting an appropriate pricing rule in the Pricing list.
Start Date: If you select this box, the program will display a calendar panel. In this panel, select the date of the first day when the POS should start applying this price rule. For example, a month-long promotion pricing can be configured to start on the first day of an upcoming month. If you clear the box, the POS will apply this price rule on the current day.
End Date: If you select this box, the program will display a calendar panel. In this panel, select the date of the last day that the POS should apply this price rule. For example, a week-long promotion can be configured to end on an upcoming Sunday. If you clear the box, the POS will apply this price rule every day indefinitely.
Schedule: If you only want the POS to enforce this price rule during certain days of the week or hours of the day, you can use the controls in the Schedule list to specify which days and time ranges they are enforced.
To add a time range to the Schedule list, click the Select a Day list and select a day of the week when the pricing rule is enforced. When you select a day, the program displays the Start Time and End Time boxes for that day. In the Start Time box, enter the time when the pricing rule is enforced. In the End Time box, enter the time of day when the pricing rule is no longer enforced. To delete a time range from this list, click its Delete button.
Pricing: This list features controls that enable you to associate the pricing rule to one or more menu components. Later, when you order a menu item associated with a component in this list, the POS will apply the pricing rule and modify the item’s price.
In the Select a Menu Category list, select the category of the component that you want to associate with the pricing rule. The menu categories include Tag/Attribute, Group, Section, Item/Size. For instance, if you are creating a pricing rule that will change the price of any menu item associated with a specific tag or attribute, you would select Tag/Attribute in the Select a Menu Category list.
When you select a menu category, the program displays various accompanying controls: the Select a Rule list, the Amount box, the Affect Modifiers check box, and the Select a (Category) list.
The label of the Select a (Category) list varies, reflecting the menu category you select in the Select a Menu Category list. For instance, if you select Tag/Attribute in the Select a Menu Category list, the program then displays the Select a Tag/Attribute list. In this list, select the specific component that you want to associate with the pricing rule. For instance, if you want to create a pricing rule to modify the prices of menu items associated with the “Happy Hour” tag, select Tag/Attributes in the Select a Menu Category list, then select Happy Hour in the Select a Tag/Attribute list.
If you select Item/Size in the Select a Menu Category list, the program will display both the Select an Item and the Select a Size list.
In the Select a Rule list, select the type of pricing rule that you want to apply:
- If you select Force Price, the POS will replace the menu item’s standard price with the price that you enter in the Amount box.
- If you select Dollar Adjust, the POS will modify the menu items standard price by the amount that you enter in the Amount box. If you enter a positive amount, the POS will add that amount to the item’s standard price. If you enter a negative amount, the POS will deduct that amount from the item’s standard price.
- If you select Percentage Adjust, the POS will modify the menu item’s standard price by the percentage amount that you enter in the Amount box.
If you select the Affect Modifiers check box, the POS will apply the pricing rule to any qualifying menu item and its modifiers. If you clear this check box, the POS will not apply the pricing rule to an item’s modifiers.
