Read the device Info screen

Read the device Info screen

The Info screen is the first place to look when a device misbehaves, and the first thing support will ask you for.

Open it

On the Room screen, tap Options, then Settings, then Info.

Info screen

Device section

Technical detail about the POS device itself: its name, its IP addresses, and the POS app version number.

Communication section

The device communication settings: the network SSID it is joined to, the servers it is connected to, client counts if any, and its network interfaces.

What to read it for

  • App version. Confirms whether a fix from a release note is actually on this device.
  • IP address. Needed to reach a printer or reader on the same subnet, and to confirm the device is not on a guest network.
  • SSID. A device on the guest Wi-Fi instead of the operations network explains a large share of sync and printing complaints.
  • Connected servers and client count. Tells you whether this device is talking to the rest of the estate.

The quickest opening move

When a site reports something vague, read the Info screen on the affected device and one that is working, and compare. The difference is usually the answer.
