A printer template tells one device which printers it uses, for which rooms, and for which display formats. Without one the device cannot print a guest check or open a cash drawer.

Steps

1. Log in to the POS.
2. On the Room screen, tap Options.
3. Tap Settings, then Printers.
4. Tap New Template.
5. Enter a name in the Template Name box.
6. In the Rooms area, select every room that will use this device printers.
7. Scroll down through the available printers.
8. For each printer this device should use, tap Enable on its tile.
9. For each kitchen printer, set the applicable formats under Default printer for formats.
10. Under Backup printer for formats, set which formats fall back to this printer when their default fails or drops off the network.
11. Tap Send Test on a tile to fire a test print.
12. Tap Save.
13. Select the appropriate printer tile for the template, then tap Use.
14. Tap Exit.

Set the backups

Backup printers are the single most valuable thing on this screen and the most commonly skipped. A site with backups configured loses one printer and keeps serving. A site without them loses one printer and stops.

Verify

Ring a test item in each room this device covers and send it. Confirm it lands on the right printer. Then unplug the primary kitchen printer and send another, and confirm the backup catches it.
